auto

Until November 2013, I was the designated driver. Downtown Los Angeles, Griffith Park, Northridge, Sunland, and West Hollywood were some of the destinations on my various commutes, and the quotidian elements along the way inform the photographs in this series. Photographing from the interior of my car provides a familiar physical detachment from the various landscapes of Southern California. The four-letter title of the series, auto, reinforces the method of transportation used to make much of the work. Moreover, the prefix auto means “self,” and this emphasizes the images’ decidedly subjective component.
